awe-struck.

Dandelion Seed Heads and The Moon, 1961-65

Yesterday I went to see the Charles Burchfield show at the Hammer, entitled Heat Waves in A Swamp, before it closed today. I am so glad I made it the whole 5 blocks away to check it out. The gathering of works spanning his entire career, along with notebooks and doodles, was incredibly beautiful. I fell in love with his strokes and use of color, and delighted in his eternal optimism and soul-searching. One of my favorite aspects of his work was how he elaborated on pieces from much earlier in his career, by simply adding pages around and increasing the size, as if to say that we never have to be finished with one thing or another, and there is always the chance to return back to something and expand on it and make it better. I also have to take a moment to comment on the beauty of his use of water color, The transparency allowed for the colors to truly shine. Left feeling so inspired. For more on the show, look here.
