for the light before and after

Sometimes New York can be so, breathtakingly beautiful.
Especially from secret parks with the best of friends.

A place like no other, a love like no other.

Can't wait to go back to the city I love the most.

Just a gallery of words we've used much

It's so important to recognize who is good to have in your life, and equally who not to. The day you can accept yourself, faults and all, and only surround yourself with others who embrace all of you, is a truly magical day. I can't say I'm quite there, but am so thankful to have those in my life who push me a little closer.

sublime is the summertime warm and lazy

Happy first day of summer + longest day of the year... The summer solstice is a big deal in my hometown, with a parade and festival occuring every year to usher in the summer. My day is much more mellow, instead dreaming of quiet beaches and moments of solitude..

I have long loved this image from {this is glamorous} to me it epitomizes the beauty of summer...

let fall the flowers from your hair

With the last of my birthday celebrations finished, the excitement has faded and I am simply another year older. From a fabulous dinner at Peels to rooftop celebrations, I felt very, very loved. Not to mention all of the amazing gifts I am now enjoying..
Peonies of every color, my favorite being the bouquet of extra large white ones, specially tracked down by my lovely boyfriend who came out on my special day..
My Ebony and Ivory cake from Black Hound Bakery...
My very own star, though the hand written certificate almost beats the star itself..
The perfect pen {which I now exclusively use} and porcelain key {that now lives on a necklace} from Tortoise General Store...
An extra special, one of a kind necklace made for me by E..
And a little gift to myself, a vintage, cream lace capped dress.

Thanks again to all those that made me feel so very loved.

I was only for to die beside

Bon Iver - Calgary
Kind of over the top {alike the new album} but beautifully ethereal nonetheless.

A Material of Child, 2011,  Oil on canvas, 30 x 24
The All Over Inside,  2011, Oil on linen,  71 x 54
The Frozen Aftervision of virtue, 2011, Oil and acrylic on canvas, 64 x 66

Annie Lapin's newest body of paintings was one of my favorite shows when recently in LA, it was truly stunning. You don't see a lot of new paintings that change the way you view the medium, but these certainly do. {As do these} Up through July 9 at Honor Fraser.

give in to what you see

I saw the High Highs play with Memoryhouse on Friday and Saturday night. They make really beautiful songs. And they're really sweet. I like them a lot and hope you will too.

In honor of the re-design, I'm going back to basics.
Serge and Jane are the ultimate.
I could look at {and listen to} them all day.

billions of stars that open to your fate

Congrats to one of my oldest, dearest friends on her new engagement.
I couldn't imagine two people more in love, and better suited to be together for life.
Not only does this make me very happy, but how beautiful is that ring??
Absolutely, simply perfect.
Love.

It feels so right

Since the last post, I have finished graduate school {classes at least, still have the thesis} traveled to California, and turned a year older. Needless to say, it's been a none stop couple of weeks, but unforgettable. Here are some of my favorite snaps from my trip out west.
We spent five amazing, relaxing nights in Palm Springs, one of my eternal happy places. We stayed at the Ace...
Where we lounged by the pool drinking Figas (my favorite concoction of earl grey infused vodka, blood orange juice and figs, or something of the like)
Listened to all of our favorite albums on vinyl...
 And hung out at the Parker {Norma's mango shrimp quesadilla.....}
And scored some major thrift finds, including a white, full length pleated silk skirt {my version of this} the cream genuine snake clutch seen in the first shot, and this perfect mexican rug, in turquoise and pink {my colors}

Then spent the next week in Santa Barbara and LA, where I hiked, swam, ate and ate. Including..
Watermelon agua fresca from La Super-Rica
The best burger and sweet potato wedges from Golden State..
And... SUSHIRRITTOs. Yes. Sushi + Burritto. Jogasaki is a must to track down when in LA.

Flew home just in time for lovely birthday celebrations with my bests of friends...
